Chapter 2: Verse 21-22
विषय: मृत्यु का रहस्य
Subject: Mystery of Death
वेदाविनाशिनं नित्यं य एनमजमव्ययम्।
कथं स पुरुषः पार्थ कं घातयति हन्ति कम्॥२१॥
वासांसि जीर्णानि यथा विहाय नवानि गृह्णाति नरोऽपराणि।
तथा शरीराणि विहाय जीर्णानि अन्यानि संयाति नवानि देही॥२२॥

O Partha, who so ever considers this soul everlasting, eternal, unborn and imperishable, knows who slays whom and (who) causes death to some one.
Just as a man wears new clothes by discarding the worn-out one, similarly the soul gets new bodies after casting away the old one.
Lesson: He who understands the characteristics of the soul knows the mystery of death. The death is like discarding the worn out clothes to get the new one.
हे पृथापुत्र अर्जुन! जो पुरुष इस आत्मा को नाशरहित, नित्य, अजन्मा और अव्यय जानता है, वह पुरुष कैसे किसको मरवाता है और कैसे किसको मारता है? ॥२१॥
जैसे मनुष्य पुराने वस्त्रों को त्यागकर दूसरे नए वस्त्रों को ग्रहण करता है, वैसे ही जीवात्मा पुराने शरीरों को त्यागकर दूसरे नए शरीरों को प्राप्तहोता है। ॥२२॥
शिक्षा: जो आत्मा को समझ लेता है वो मृत्यु के रहस्य को जान जाता है, मृत्य, पुराने हो चुके कपड़े को उतार कर नये पहनने जैसी है।
