Chapter 2: Verse 25-26
Subject: Characteristics of Soul
विषय: आत्मा की विशेषतायें।
अव्यक्तोऽयमचिन्त्योऽयमविकार्योऽयमुच्यते।
तस्मादेवं विदित्वैनं नानुशोचितुमर्हसि॥२५॥
अथ चैनं नित्यजातं नित्यं वा मन्यसे मृतम्।
तथापि त्वं महाबाहो नैवं शोचितुमर्हसि॥२६॥
This (the soul) is neither the subject of sense organs nor of mind. This is said to be unchangeable. Therefore, (after) understanding its nature you should not grieve.
(And) even if you consider of it as being perpetually born and dying, O Mighty Armed, you should not grieve like this.
Lesson: The soul is beyond the effects of the five primary elements. Do not grieve for the soul, when it departs from the body, as it is unchangeable and beyond the comprehension of the sense organs and the mind
यह आत्मा अव्यक्त है, यह आत्मा अचिन्त्य है और इसको विकाररहित कहा जाता है। इससे हे अर्जुन! इस आत्मा को उपर्युक्त प्रकार से जानकर तू शोक करने के योग्य नहीं है अर्थात् तुझे शोक करना उचित नहीं है। ॥२५॥
किन्तु यदि तू इस आत्मा को सदा जन्मने वाला तथा सदा मरने वाला मानता हो, तो भी हे महाबाहो! तू इस प्रकार शोक करने योग्य नहीं है। ॥२६॥
शिक्षा: आत्मा पञ्च-तत्त्वों के प्रभाव से परे है। जब ये शरीर से निकलती है तो इसके लिये शोक न करो ये कभी नही बदलती तथा मस्तिष्क और इन्द्रियों के दायरे मे नही आती।
